Raising Kids Who Think

A cozy scene with an open book and laptop on a wooden desk, perfect for study or work.

The goal of Christian parenting is not to raise children who blindly accept what we believe. It is to raise children who can reason from Scripture and own their faith for themselves.

Too many parents hand their kids conclusions without teaching them how to get there. We tell them what to believe but not why it is true. Then we wonder why they walk away from faith the moment they encounter a professor or friend who asks hard questions.

Here is a better approach: teach your children to think biblically, not just behave biblically. When they ask “why,” resist the urge to say “because the Bible says so.” Instead, walk them through the reasoning. Show them how Scripture connects to life.

A child who can reason from Scripture will not be shaken when challenges come. They will not need you to defend their faith – they will be able to defend it themselves.
